Phil sees his shadow

Puxatawney Phil at daybreak this morning saw his shadow, so that means Phil says six more weeks of winter.

In looking over the statistics for January, which is normally pretty cold for us each winter, it was the opposite.

Using statistics from the National Weather Service it was warmer and wetter than normal. High pressure kept “most” of the cold Arctic air away from us. There was one major Pacific storm system that brought over 13 inches of snow to Great Falls over a three-day period. During that time period, on January 23rd, 7 inches feel breaking a new record snowfall amount for the day. The previous record was 5.6 inches of snowfall in 1982.

Look at the good side of the calendar. We only have a little more than 6  weeks before spring arrives! Yes, my favorite season of the year.

Snow is slowly melting.
