Enjoy the mild weather while you can! Change coming again.

Winter just does not want to let its grip on us it seems. We had hoped warming winds to get our temperatures up today. It looks like that will be delayed until overnight and tomorrow. More colder weather is on the way by this weekend. Keep the boots and coats handy.

March in like a Lion!

Here is the National Weather Service take on this weekend’s changes:

Our active pattern of winter weather conditions will continue this weekend.  Latest forecast models indicate a weak trough with scattered areas of light snow will move through the region Saturday afternoon/evening.  Locations along the Rocky Mtn Front and Hiline could see impacts from blowing snow from gusty westerly winds accompanying the trough.

Following a brief improvement in conditions Sunday morning, a cold front will push south from the Canadian border and combine with overrunning moisture aloft coming north from Idaho.  This will create a broader coverage area of light to moderate snow lasting from midday Sunday into Monday morning. Surface winds will shift to northerly with frontal passage and could be gusty for short periods, causing blowing/drifting snow. Another round of winter advisories and/or warnings may be needed with this second system.

Forecast confidence is marginal at this time for the Sunday system, as succeeding model runs have slowed its arrival time and varied the locations of sustained, moderate snowfall.  Further model adjustments appear likely during the latter half of this week.  We will continue to monitor the system’s development and provide additional updates.
