What a whale of a snowstorm for Central MT!

Driving home from work last night about 11 pm it was moderate to heavy rain but within ten minutes, before I could get home the rain changed to snow. Boy did it snow overnight, very heavy at times, and very heavy wet snow!

Some had power outages from tree branches and power lines down. Already the pavement in Great Falls is slushy or wet with 12.6″ of snow containing more than 1 inch of moisture. The temperature at the airport is 35 degrees and there is still some moisture in the area, but melting is already starting on the warm sidewalks.

This is a picture of a bush before the melting started and it all fell off.

This heavy wet snow will be melting quickly on the pavement but snow totals are very impressive so far:

11 SSE of Lewistown  23.6″ Snowfall

5 SE Monarch     15.5″

6 W of Neihart    14″

3 N of Raynesford 14″

Great Falls NWS     12.6″

4 E of Wisdom       12″

Belt                  12″

5 SE of Ulm    10″

Hobson           10″

Lewistown      8″

Simms              6″

—————- New snowfall totals——-

5 SE Winnett  5″

8.7″ E Miles City  11″

Roundup        12″

Ryegate          3″

Snow is still falling in some areas, however it will gradually taper off. By Saturday the sun is expected with southwest winds and temperatures in the lower 50’s. That means a lot of melting.
