...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM FRIDAY TO 6 AM MDT
SATURDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREAT FALLS HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW...WHICH IS IN
EFFECT FROM 6 AM FRIDAY TO 6 AM MDT SATURDAY. THE WINTER STORM
WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

* TIMING AND MAIN IMPACT: A COLD AND MOIST SPRING STORM SYSTEM
  WILL IMPACT THE AREA FRIDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT. WET SNOW WILL
  DEVELOP NEAR THE CANADIAN BORDER FRIDAY MORNING...SPREADING
  SOUTH INTO THE REMAINDER OF NORTH CENTRAL MONTANA BY FRIDAY
  AFTERNOON. SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND
  EVENING BEFORE DIMINISHING FRIDAY NIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES ARE
  LIKELY AT ELEVATIONS BELOW 4000 FEET WITH 10 TO 16 INCHES
  EXPECTED FOR ELEVATIONS ABOVE 4000 FEET. ISOLATED AMOUNTS UP TO
  20 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE AT RIDGE TOPS. SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2
  INCHES PER HOUR WILL BE POSSIBLE DURING THE AFTERNOON AND
  EVENING HOURS.

* WINDS AND VISIBILITY: GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH
  COMBINED WITH AREAS OF HEAVIER SNOWFALL...WILL REDUCE
  VISIBILITIES BELOW ONE QUARTER OF A MILE AT TIMES FRIDAY
  AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

* OTHER IMPACTS: THE COMBINATION OF WINDS...HEAVY WET SNOW AND
  COLD TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY IMPACT RANCHING AND AGRICULTURAL
  ACTIVITIES AND MAY CAUSE A HAZARD FOR POWER LINES. WARM GROUND
  TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY ALLOW ROADWAYS TO REMAIN WET OR
  SLUSHY...EXCEPT OVER MOUNTAINS PASSES WHERE ROAD SURFACES WILL
  BECOME SNOW COVERED AND ICY.

* CONFIDENCE: CONFIDENCE IN A SIGNIFICANT WET SNOW ACCUMULATION IS
  GREATEST FOR AREAS ALONG THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN FRONT WEST OF CUT
  BANK AND CHOTEAU...AND NEAR THE LITTLE BELT MOUNTAINS...INCLUDING
  ADJACENT AREAS FROM FROM BELT TO GEYSER AND HIGHWOOD.

* LOCATIONS AFFECTED INCLUDE: CHOTEAU...WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS...
  STANFORD...BROWNING...MARIAS PASS...GREAT FALLS AND KINGS HILL
  PASS.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR
THE LATEST FORECASTS.

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW
ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN
EMERGENCY. AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW WILL ALSO REDUCE VISIBILITIES. IF
YOU MUST...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR
VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.
