Tired of the hot weather? Some relief on the way!

July 7, 2011

After getting a very slow start to summer, we are seeing a good dose of hot weather lately. It arrived just in time for the three-day holiday weekend.

Like a garden, motorcycles, scooters, convertibles and other more summer like clothing is popping up all over! The swimming pools are staying and many are looking for a shade tree to rest under during the middle of the day.

I suspect ice cream sales and soda pop sales have increased a lot lately. I know I have seen a lot more watermelon, which is always good on a hot summer day!

A strong cold front zips through the state Friday. Ahead of the front breezy with a chance of a few showers and thunderstorms.  Once the front arrives Friday we can expect cooler temperatures for a couple of days. Any severe weather should be mainly in eastern Montana and the western Dakotas.

Be prepared for some 70’s and mid 80’s this weekend. As we move into next week the temperatures will begin to creep up into the upper 80’s again and the heat returns.

Stay cool and enjoy your evening.

In the pool today and Thursday!

July 6, 2011

Warm and dry conditions continue for the near future. We still are on target to see a cold front arrive Thursday night and Friday that will cause gusty winds and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. The temperature will drop as well.

Overnight clear and a light east to southwest winds with a low near 60.

Thursday sunny and hot with a high near 90.

Friday mostly sunny and southwest winds gusting to near 35 mph. High in the upper 70’s.

Saturday mostly sunny with a high near 80.

Sunday mostly sunny and slowly warming up to the lower 80’s.

Monday mostly sunny and the mid 80’s return, warm enough to see some showers and thunderstorms.

It looks like city pools will stay busy!

A hot end to the Independence Day celebration!

July 5, 2011

An enjoyable Independence Day celebration with plenty to do around the area! Anything outdoors means some sort of mosquito protection! A quick visit to the mountains and the rest of the three days was spent doing things around the house that seem to get ignored. Also the first BBQ of the season, steak and boy was it good!

Hot high pressure sticks around for a good part of the week. By Friday cooler air arrives courtesy of a cold front. In the mean time we will need to deal with 90 degrees or more!

You can still see plenty of snow in the high elevations and there is a lot of moisture in the snow that remains. Here is a graphic from the National Weather Service that shows just how much moisture still remains in the high country!

This time of the year we should normally be around 80 degrees for a high and close to 50 at night, so a good 10 degree increase above normal for us.

I hope you had a restful holiday and this week looks like a good time to put the pools to good use!

Enjoy the long holiday weekend!

July 1, 2011

There sure is a lot of traffic this afternoon and people are fueling up, packing cars amd trucks for the long holiday weekend! I’m seeing a lot of boats, campers and motorcycles getting ready for the the next three days.

The weather looks to cooperate for us this year. Mostly sunny conditions and temperatures gradually warming up as we head for the 4th. In fact some areas will see 90 degrees or more, including Great Falls.

Overnight mostly clear with northwest winds gusting to near 20 mph and a low of 48.

Saturday sunny and mild with less wind and temperatures in the mid 80’s. A great way to start the weekend.

Sunday sunny and hot. Because of the heat we may see a few isolated showers and thunderstorms. Our high near 91.

Monday sunny and cooler with a high in the low 80’s.

It looks like summer may finally be here to stay!

Have a safe holiday weekend!
